For Secretary of State

My Plans for 2012

Dear Friend,

I am pleased to announce today that I am running for re-election for a second term as your Secretary of State.

I have worked tirelessly to make good on the promises I made to you nearly four years ago. And with your support and a dedicated team in my office, I have done just that.

Together, we have:

Reformed Oregon’s initiative process through proactive action: Through toughened penalties for lack of compliance and putting investigators on the streets, we have made a dramatic shift in paradigm. Today, Oregonians can feel more confident that the initiatives that reach their ballot did so ethically and in accordance with state law. In fact, the Ballot Initiative Strategy Center ranked Oregon top in the nation.

Identified more than $180 million in savings and efficiencies through tough performance auditing: In fact, in 2010 alone every dollar we spent on performance auditing resulted in 64 dollars in savings and efficiencies.

Reduced barriers to the electoral process: I have worked tirelessly as Secretary of State to make voting as convenient and accessible as possible, using iPad technology to help disabled voters mark their ballots. I’ve implemented an online voter registration system that provides a simple, secure and effective way for Oregon citizens to register and update registration information. Now, Oregonians can track their ballots, ask questions, and get up to date information about their ballot.

As the right for citizens of this country to vote is continuously being put in jeopardy by voter suppression efforts across the nation, it is imperative that Oregon’s Secretary of State be someone that understands just how important it is to make certain that every legally eligible Oregonian has the ability to vote. Your vote is your voice and I will stand up and fight for your right to vote!

Can you make a contribution of $50 today to help ensure that I can continue this important work?

Still, there is much more to do! Together, we can keep this momentum going and make sure that our hard work isn’t rolled back!

In these lean economic times, Oregon’s taxpayers need a Secretary of State with the proven ability to operate efficiently and save money. I will continue to make improvements to the performance auditing system to ensure that your tax dollars are being saved!

In addition, we need to make it as easy as possible to start or expand your business in Oregon and create jobs. Under my leadership, Oregon’s online Central Business Registry is expanding to include local governments and licensing agencies. I have taken action to establish public-private partnerships that create jobs in Oregon and deliver services to Oregonians at an affordable price.

With your help, I can continue to bring focus to critical issues facing Oregon and ensure that every citizen, city, and county has the personal attention of the Secretary of State’s Office.

Can you donate today to help me kick-off my re-election campaign?

Thank You.
