For Secretary of State

Why I’m Running

I’m running for Secretary of State for the same reason I first ran for office – to make Oregon a better place for your family and mine.

These are tough times and we need elected leaders that will look out for taxpayers and work to get the economy back on track. I’ve done both.

By executing tough audits of state agencies, I've identified over $180 million dollars in savings and efficiencies. In fact, for every dollar spent on audits in 2010, we were able to return 64 dollars in savings and efficiencies.

We need to make it as easy as possible to start or expand your business in Oregon and create jobs. Under my leadership, Oregon’s business registry is expanding to include local governments and licensing agencies.

I have worked to establish public-private partnerships that create jobs in Oregon and deliver services to Oregonians at an affordable price.

The Secretary of State is also the guardian of Oregon’s democracy. I believe that your vote is your voice. I won my first primary for the State House by seven votes. I know first-hand that every vote matters. That is why I have worked tirelessly as Secretary of State to make voting as convenient and accessible as possible, from implementing an online voter registration system to using iPad technology to help disabled voters cast their ballots.

Finally, as your Secretary of State, I have fought to crack down on fraud and abuse in the initiative process. Under my watch, Oregon was given the highest grade in the nation for integrity and fairness in the ballot initiative process.

But there is still more work to be done. With your help, we can continue to move Oregon forward. Please join our team today.
