Kate Brown honored by Oregon State Bar
Kate Brown, one of four Democrats running for secretary of state, has been selected for a prestigious lawyer award.
The Oregon State Bar has selected Brown, a Portland senator, to receive the President's Award of Merit, which is similar to a lifetime achievement award.
A Friday awards ceremony will highlight Brown's 16-year legislative career as an advocate for families and children and spearheading increases in judicial salaries and pay increases for lawyers who represent the poor.
Brown has also received the Profiles in Courage award by Basic Rights Oregon, a gay-rights group; the Legislator of the Year Award by the Oregon Psychological Association; and a Woman of Achievement Award from the Oregon Commission for Women.
Brown is in private practice with the non-profit Juvenile Rights Project in Portland.
